In Which We Go to The Moon!

As usual, my commentary is in italics, except for dialogue. Last time, Watts warped onto a bridge with a distant view of the NASA headquarters, on the day of the launch. It's quite awkward to start out with some criticism, especially since this is the very last part of this series, but how is Watts here? Aren't these supposed to be derived from Johnny's memories? Shouldn't he be in the headquarters, preparing for his space trip with his wife? Did Rosalene just bend reality completely within his memory? Maybe she's just extraordinary about this memory editing business. Watts passes by various silhouetted people, and runs into Isabelle, Nicolas and Joey watching the shuttle from afar. Isabelle converses a little with Nicolas about how unbelievable it was that Johnny and River made it this far. Nicolas himself talks about how hard Johnny worked to get here. Joey boasts about how it's his brother going to travel in the shuttle, and talks briefly about how he wrote

In Which We Enter an Endless Hallway

As usual, my commentary is in italics, except for dialogue. Last time, Watts was left all to himself in a long, dark hallway. He can enter the two classrooms downwards, but there's nothing there. Going right, he runs into globes and computers being flung at him, and spike traps appearing on the floor. He admonishes Eva a little, and she just tells him to stay put till she's done. He then threatens to unplug the machine, but Rosalene points out that that would distort his memories. The lights go out again, and she asks him to meet her at the end of the hallway.  At some point, Rosalene releases literal zombie clones of herself to stop Watts. Watts comments on how ridiculous this is, then conjures some plants to throw at them. Yes, this is exactly what happens. The author ended up inserting slapstick humor into an action sequence of all things. In part, this is also a reference to Plants vs. Zombies, albeit an incredibly forced one. Going forward, he runs into a part of the hal

In Which Children Meet

As usual, my commentary is in italics, except for dialogue. Last time, the doctors followed Johnny as he sneaked off to a cliff. He looks around, then jumps across the stream to the other side. He is briefly stunned by the view from there, and heads to a log near the edge of the cliff to get a closer look. He's incredibly impressed by what he sees, and decides to spend some time there. The doctors speak up. Dr. Watts:  (annoyedly) Well, okay, so he wandered off the trail and found a cool place. Dr. Watts: But let's face it, he could've also been eaten by a pack of tigers. Dr. Rosalene:  (looking at Watts) Tigers don't travel in packs, idiot. Dr. Watts: (looking at Rosalene)...It was just an expression. - Both doctors turn back to the scene Johnny is enjoying. Dr. Watts: Y'know, when I was a kid, my grandpa took me stargazing every year. Dr. Rosalene:  (looking at Watts)...Yeah? Dr. Watts: There was a hill outside of the city that we'd stay at...the same one e

In Which Tragedy Strikes!

As usual, my commentary is in italics, except for dialogue. Last time, the doctors warped back into their patient's memory, after acquiring some roadkill odour to hopefully get their childhood memories simulated. Act 3 They warp into the last working memory, and the memory gauge automatically fills up. The football doesn't have to be prepared either. Rosalene takes one last look at Johnny's room before leaving. At the white void, the doctors take a closer look at the ball, and begin to talk. Dr. Watts: To think that this little thing's causing us so much trouble... Dr. Watts: ...I just want to kick it to outer space. Dr. Rosalene: I suppose all we can do now is to send the signal and hope. Dr. Watts: (looking at Rosalene) Well... ready? - Rosalene turns to Watts, and the scene cuts out. We switch to Johnny's room in the present, where Rosalene lights up a signal. The doctor notices this, and releases the odour to Johnny. We cut back to the white void, where the s
